Episode 11: Seasons of Business and Life

Reflecting on the season of growth, rest, and everything in between.

There's something about the shift from summer to fall that makes you pause and reflect. Maybe it's the cooler mornings or the sound of leaves starting to crunch underfoot. Either way, it's the perfect time to slow down, look back, and check in with yourself not just as a business owner, but as a person too.

In this episode of The Accounting Edit, Leah and I dive into what this past summer taught us about balance, boundaries, and building businesses that work for us, not against us. We talk about the joy of slow mornings, reconnecting with simple routines like cooking and going to the farmers market, and learning to protect our time in a world that constantly asks for more.

Running a business in the summer months can feel like a mix of freedom and chaos. Some weeks you're inspired and creative, other weeks you just want to sit outside with a coffee and do absolutely nothing. And that's okay. We both realized that the flexibility we once dreamed of when starting our firms is something we have to continually protect, because it's easy to fill every minute with work if you let it.

For me, this summer was about rethinking what “busy” actually means. I started cooking more at home, spending my weekends outdoors, and saying no more often to opportunities that didn’t align, to clients that weren’t a good fit, and even to the pressure of always being on. Those decisions created space for the kind of clarity and creativity that only comes when you give yourself room to breathe.

As we move into fall, Leah and I share how we're resetting our rhythms, whether that means tracking time more intentionally, trying out new marketing strategies, or simply creating structure for our weekends so we can truly rest. Entrepreneurship, like life, moves in seasons. Some are about growth, others about reflection, and every one brings its own lessons.

If you've ever felt like you're juggling too many roles, founder, partner, friend, daughter, this episode will feel like a warm reminder that slowing down isn't falling behind. It's part of building a business that lasts.

What we cover in this episode:
• How flexibility in entrepreneurship brings both freedom and challenge
• The lessons summer taught us about rest, structure, and balance
• Personal routines that help sustain energy and creativity
• The power of saying no to protect your time and focus
• How we're approaching fall with fresh marketing ideas and new habits
